I thought my Stephania Erecta was my first caudex before finding out my ponytail palm is also a caudex. Stephania is a bit more manageable and developing into a beauty! I can’t help checking for new leaves each day! 😍🌱🌴 Stephania was slow to start her growth spurt. She is faster growing than the other caudex ‘potatoes’ I bought who have yet to produce leaves after weeks half emerged in a damp cactus mix. Next step is to add a heating pad.

I bought Stephania with 1/4 inch new sprouts in place (Etsy: JaydenSucculent). I soaked all the potatoes in warm water for several hours to kickstart the roots and get the potatoes out of dormancy. I’m still waiting for growth on the others. I bought 3 from HirstGardens, Etsy. They look like a different type of caudex. Only one emerged with a tiny sprout. I highly recommend buying a caudex with sprouts to lessen its growth time if you are interested.
