I let my daughter pick one of my most recent plants, she picked Alocasia Silver Dragon. This is my first hard to care for plant. Anyone else have one and have any tips for care?

Thank you! I’ve been looking on Amazon, just always worried they’ll be super small, and not as large as they are pictured. Pretty collection of plants too!

Thank you! I really like this stand. I didn’t want something that sat super low where plants were on the floor because I have a blind dog. The height is good could use a little more room in between, but that is just me being picky

I think it’s perfect! 👍🏼
0 J'aimeI don’t have this particular alocasia but I have two others. I keep them both in my south window and keep the soil moist! Planta says it’s too much light, but they love it!

It always has guttation even if it’s been a week since watering. Do you see that with the types of Alocasias you have? It makes me nervous I’m over watering but everything I read says that’s not the case it’s just extra water in the root ball
0 J'aimeI don’t particularly notice that. If you have a well draining soil then you have room to overwater. Guttation is healthy and normal though and usually not a sign of overwatering or rot. When do you typically water your plants? Plant stomata close in the afternoon/evening so if you water at those times then the plant will show guttation because it can’t use as much water at that time

I have this one... he gets glitchy... loves indirect light. I have mine on the window and have to keep turning him because his leaves always then towards the sun

Have you found a fertilizer that works well for it?

My alocasia (fyi its black velvet not silver dragon) is kept a little bellow an east facing window where the pot is under the sill but the the leaves are above it. Sense I don’t have a greenhouse, i cut and taped a bunch of ziplock bags to make a makeshift giant bag that i mist the inside of and put over my alocasia. I water her every 4 days and keep her in a smaller pot (where the roots are more compact) and in VERY well draining soil that contains leca, pumice, coco coir, mosquito bits, orchid bark, charcoal, and all purpose black and gold soil (which ik its a lot but it works best for me). I also give her 10-10-10 all purpose fertilizer every month. Also, when i water my alocasia, i take off the makeshift bag completely and aerate it out while i water my plant. Doing this has my alocasia thriving with 1-2 leaves every week without dropping ANY leaves ever. Iet me know if you have any questions ☺️
