Plant Lives Matter

I have to say that I’m a little annoyed at my T. abdita at the moment. I’ve been trying so hard over the last like 2 years to get it to turn red and was unsuccessful. Now all of a sudden, I have finally succeeded and it’s simultaneously starting to flower! Grr!!! I just wanted to enjoy a red abdita for a while, but it’s insisting on killing itself to allow that to happen! Sigh…oh well, at least I’ll get a bunch of baby plants out of it when it’s done. Silver lining. I’ll just enjoy the show while it lasts. Does anyone have more experience with Tillandsia and know if this is what usually happens with this species? Like can I have a red abdita without having it decide to flower and thus end its life?

I'm not sure about this, but I think I watched it on YT when I was learning about them that you can cut the flower stalk when it's about to start? Plant might think, oh I guess not time yet 😁 but I'm sure it'll be putting up another one soon.

Oof I’m so torn! I really want to see it flower, but I know it will put all its energy into those flowers. Similarly, I let my Alocasia flower a couple years ago because I felt like it had earned the right to be itself. I’ll probably end up doing the same with this one…I’m a softie.

Nothing wrong with that, knowing the fact that I was not sure about it, lol! Enjoy the plant and the flowers, there will be more 😊
