Please make a suggestion as to what is happening to my bird nest fern and how to fix it? The last picture is what it looked like 3 May 2025. Sitting high on the bookcase. The other 3 photos were taken today. Thanks 🌻 I have been using tap water to water all my plants.
I trimmed the larger one and have isolated it next to a grow light. It seems to be doing better. I think I will do that to my other plant. I must not be watering properly. I’m a drought and flood girl. But I have pots with the wicks that I can switch them to and get a more consistent watering. I switched my English ivy to one and it loves it. I still prefer the drought and flood method. Haha. But I guess I’ll need to adapt.
0 likesI also treated with neems oil, Castile soap and peppermint oil just incase after washing the frons.
0 likesI will say you’re fern probably does not love going through “drought” and the “flood” could be harmful as well if you don’t have well-draining soil. Keep in mind bird’s nest ferns like to grow on the sides of trees in tropical conditions, they aren’t used to their roots being compacted by heavy, suffocatingly wet soils and getting a constant source of moisture from humid air.
1 likeTook this advice and did a soil mixture of bark, perlite, and garden soil. Added just a bit of vermiculite and a tiny amount of moss. It stayed loose even after adding water before potting. Then I placed them in pots with wicks but the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot. I haven’t found a good place for them yet but they appeared to perk up right after repotting. I do so appreciate the advice. I still lack confidence with caring for my plants.
