Hi, I have a prayer plant and I accidentally left it outside in the 30°f weather the last few days while I was out of town and now it looks like this. Have I doomed this plant to die? Will it make a come back? What can I do to help? It's inside now
Help!! My marantha is trowing a tantrum. It was growing tons of leaves for weeks, but they curled up and haven't really opened. I got her in the spring of this year and haven't repoted her yet.
Hi, I’m new to the Rattlesnake Calathea. I have a Whitestar Calathea and Lemon Lime Maranta, so I’m not brand new to the prayer plant family, but I certainly don’t know everything. (Bottom and top view of leaf shown) There are these dots on the underside of one of my leaves that look green (like the top side of the leaf) and I’m not sure if it is spider mite damage or something else. It doesn’t move or come off if I touch it, and there’s no texture. I think it’s leaf damage of some kind. My Whitestar had this happen too at one point but I just took a look at her and now those spots are gone. Any idea what’s going on here? I bought this plant at Lowe’s a few days ago and removed an actual tiny spider from webbing between leaves on this plant. I’ve never had spider mites before, so I don’t really know what I’m dealing with. Second question, this new growth leaf seems to be developing its purple color as it grows, but everything I’ve read says it should have come in with the purple color. Does this and the new growth emerging to its left look healthy? What should I do with them? PS— I know my “kitchen” location shows this plant is getting too much light, but I promise it’s not. I think I need to reassign what cardinal direction my kitchen window faces. All of my plants have done fantastic in this light when the app says the light is “too bright”.
Help! Why are her leaves curling? And she has stopped openeing and closing? She was was really healthy!!! But heavy and kind of a double plant so I slipt it into 2 and I think maybe she hates me now? Is she just in shock or did I do some real damage?
Does anyone know what this means? Got this plant recently and it came like this. It feels a bit crusty. Not sure what to do
Hey does anyone here potentially know what could he causing my red maranta to start having yellowing leaves? I’ve had the same care since June for it, and it has been fine but recently (two weeks ago) it had started to give me yellow leaves Care: Water with distilled water when 25% dry Humidity ranges from 60-80% Gets bright light (in a sunroom with south facing windows) - not close to windows but further away since it’s direct light If anyone has any helpful tips lmk! I did cut off the four yellow / yellowing leaves but I see some more may be starting to yellow- help is appreciated!!!
I moved states/apartments a few months ago and my rattlesnake plant has not been adjusting well to the new location and I wonder if anyone could identify what issue might be causing these spots? The leaves have also stopped closing up during the day. I do get very bright direct light in my apartment for a couple hours every day and I’ve moved her around to try to figure out where it would be best to put her where she will still get indirect light. Does it look like a lighting issue or maybe humidity?
I have a rooted red maranta... I'm in zone 6B, should I wait until spring to plant it? Well, I also have a lime one that I think it's rooted (it doesn't look like the red one for the most part, but maybe it's because of different cutting time? 🤷♀️
Attempting water propogation with a prayer plant ‘kerchoveana’ for the first time, via a stem cutting (cut 1/2” below a node) in water. Any general advise welcome 🌱
Help!! I made a post a few weeks ago explaining that my plant had a few leaves turn brown. Somebody suggested that the plant was too dry. Since then, I moved it out of the drafty room into a different one. The browning of the leaves has continued, and it looks like I’m about to loose an entire stem to the plant.
So I moved my prayer plant ‘Kerchoveana’ to my small upstairs bathroom which is the most humid place in the entire house, I am talking about more humid than the Amazon rainforest and has a roof window that gives it a bright indirect light shower entire day and I have switched to watering it with the same water as my Venus fly trap ‘Dc-XL’. Which is using pure life water to water it since my tap water seems to contain some harmful chemicals that hurt it. So is this a good setup to help stop the die backing and let it get bigger.
Prayer plant peeps: how snug do you let your plants get in their pots before you size up? On the one hand, she’s still pushing new leaves with no signs of slowing down. On the other, she’s probably doubled in size since I put her in this container a few months back and her roots are getting pretty wild. They’re not coiling on top of themselves in the way I would consider “root-bound”, but that might be because they’ve extended beyond the pot through holes. Most of my plants are aroids and I usually wait to see either slowed growth or for them to need watering more frequently, but I’m not sure that translates for calathea/geoppertia
My kerchoveana prayer plant keeps dying back all the long vines it produces every year, how can I get it to keep them and grow big?
Any care tips for a young Calathea Whitestar? Mine was doing great when I first brought her home, but now I’m having problems. First brought home— 5 adult leaves, 3 baby leaves. 2in pot 2 months later (present)— 6 adult leaves, 1 baby leaf. 5in pot Between then and now— 2 baby leaves yellowed and I cut them off. Now the last baby leaf (the largest of the 3) is yellowing, and I just had a problem with her leaves curling inward (not folding like they do, but curling). Fixed the curling but now I’m noticing clear spots on two of the adult leaves. No sign of pests that I know of. What’s happening and what do I do?
Happy little update on this Calathea warscewiczii… Proud to report 3 new leaves! One nearly completely open as of today. Yay! I knew this little dude would be a bit difficult given its humidity needs and being in CO where our highest humidity is like 30%. But a little humidifier and little gulps of water every few days is seeming to keep this guy pleased. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Hi! I was watering my plant today and noticed this completely dead leaf :( I water it with room temperature, filtered water, and it has been a very long time since I’ve had a brown leaf like this. It is over 10 feet from the window, and is in the middle of the plant, so I don’t believe it is sunburn. I was actually thinking about getting it closer to a window, as the newer leaves are pretty faint in color. Now, I’m worried!! (The other brown leaves are scorched from being a bit too much light while I was trying to find the perfect spot at my parent’s house…oopsies!)
I’ve never seen whatever this is growing out of one of the stems. Does anyone know what it is?
White fusion people — any thoughts here? When I bought it recently, the whites were vibrant. Lots of new growth since. However, the new leaves have a greenish tint to the white sections. ChatGPT says this is common in white fusions because new growth needs more chlorophyll and it’ll whiten over time. Have any of you experienced this?
I know you all would appreciate this: my lemon-lime is blooming 🥹🥹 After rescuing this plant from a hydrophobic, leggy, crusty existence with a previous owner and nearing 10 months of rehab…this lady is loving life. 🥲
Hello all! I’m new here and relatively new to indoor plants. I used to have planted, aquascaped aquariums and have always enjoyed outdoor container gardening, thus “relatively new.” Wanted to share my two calatheas (rattlesnake and warcscewiczii)! I’m in CO, so humidifiers pepper my office, (eastern facing with a huge window). I’m finding topping with moss is helping with humidity and preventing drying out too quickly. I’ve got them in tropical houseplant soil (that has tiny amounts of lava rock) heavily amended with horticultural charcoal, perlite, orchid bark mix and leca to ensure good drainage. Hope all are enjoying their day!
