How do I save this plant??? I keep it in my bathroom window, and I follow a watering schedule based off of this app. But yet it’s dying

    Crispy leaves tend to be a sign of burning so try moving her out of the window into more indirect light and see if that improves her condition at all

    I never water exactly by the app tbh. It usually serves as a good reminder but I end up checking on my plants anyways and poking my finger in to see if they’re dry. Calathea don’t like to dry out completely so if you feel the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry you should give her a drink

      ^this I find that the app waters too frequently for my plants. I use the snooze button frequently.

      Both of you could have used the custom watering schedule to fix your inconsistent warnings, but now planta learns when you snooze waterings

      Eh I’d rather be reminded more often and have to snooze it than make my own schedule and have it go too long between watering

    In your defense the watering schedule on this app is helpful but has messed me up as well because it’s not 100% accurate. To accurately diagnose, I would check a couple things: 1. Soil-does it feel dry to the touch when you stick your finger in the soil? Or you can use a toothpick to check like the baking method. I’d try to check the bottom soil if possible too to see if that soil is also dry/mostly dry. If so, probably is under-watered. 2. Light- is it getting hit by bright, direct light rays? Or right up against a window with really hot afternoon sun? If so, you can move it just a couple feet away from the window or to a window with more morning light. Leaves turning yellow first before turning brown and curling leaves tend to indicate that it’s thirsty. If the soil is wet even though you didn’t water it recently, or if you see any mold/fungus gnats, it’s probably overwatering.

      If it is underwatered, I would fix the plant by making sure that I saturate the soil thoroughly with each watering and increase how often I’m watering so that that the soil is about 50% dry but not completely dry before watering. You can also check the site settings in Planta to make sure the light/draft is accurate (being near a vent could make the soil dry out faster).

      Once you fix whatever the issue was, you can also prune the worst looking leaves with some clean scissors to help the plant focus on new growth! I just try to make sure I don’t cut back more than 1/3 of it at the most at one time.

    My rattlesnake did this. I ended up cutting almost the whole thing. She is alive and beautiful today

    Dry from under watering. If it’s getting direct sun, that is part of the cause too.

    Use distilled water! I had a rattlesnake plant that was on the brink of death a few months ago, and switching the kind of water I gave it did the trick.
