Took over this plant. Added a humidifier, sitting 7 feet from window indirect light, and been measuring soil moisture levels and watering every 2 weeks or so based on the soil moisture level. Is this plant too far gone?

WhimsyAre the leaves crispy to the touch? And what water are you using? I’d also look at Aloha Plant Life on YouTube, she covers a lot about leaves and curling

What’s left is still soft I trimmed the crispy edges. Thanks I’ll check them out!

If it’s soft it may be overwatered, because under watering makes them crispy! But again, the channel has more information then I do so I’d get some other opinions first!

Plant Fatherwhat kind of water are you using? and what do you mean by ‘measuring soil moisture levels’— are you using a moisture meter? those things are junky and unreliable as unfortunately they don’t measure the level of moisture but rather the conductivity of the soil

I’ve been using filtered water. And yes I’ve been using a moisture meter. I’ll look up alternatives to that. Super new at plant life lol.

no worries, we’re all learning more about plants all the time, even those of us experienced in household horticulture. a bamboo skewer is the best moisture meter besides your fingers in my opinion. for calathea, the soil only needs to be dry about an inch down, so feel the top soil to be sure it’s ready for water. also filtering your water is a great first step but unfortunately most filters still leave some chlorine in the water, which prayer plants cannot tolerate. i’d recommend using either rain water or used fish tank water if you have access to it. if not, simply adding a drop of aquarium water conditioner per gallon of water will dissolve the remaining chlorines and keep your sensitive plants happy

LinaDon’t give up. Calathea can grow from dead as long as some corms are good underground it will make new shoots. But from my experience they don’t like big pots. I would take it out. Clean the “bulb” or corm and put it in new pot and soil according to the size of alive root system. Then just take care as per Plants advice and be patient.

That’s one of calatheas that came back from dead ☠️. You can see the date on the pictures how long it took.

ToPlantHarmonyYeah agreed, as much grief as calatheas get, they can be somewhat hardy even after leaves have died off. In my experience as long as the stems don’t get mushy all the way down to the roots then there’s still a chance 😂
