Hi. My lemon lime Maranta folds her leaves WAY back during the day and barely picks them up at night. Possibilities I've read are: 1. that she was getting too much light so I moved her to a slightly shadier spot 2. that she needed more humidity so I gave her some damp moss under her pot in an area that stays between 40 and 50% humidity or 3. that she could be root bound, which is what I'm looking at today. Is she root bound? In a garden/food plant I would say no but this is my first Maranta and I'm not sure what they consider to be root bound. Her pot is 3 1/2", if I pot her up should she go to a 4" or a 5"? Thank you so much!

    I don’t consider that rootbound. My marantas are much more rootbound that that, and they’re thriving. I wouldn’t let the bottom of the pot sit on wet moss though. I’d prop it up a bit so that the plant isn’t touching the moss directly. I wouldn’t worry about it pointing its leaves up at night either. All of mine have some leaves that don’t move as much as the newer growth. As long as the plant is healthy and not showing signs of distress, I wouldn’t stress about it.

      Ok, thank you for the tips. Should the leaves be folding back so hard? When I find pics of plants doing similar people are talking about them not doing well.

      It just depends on where the light is coming from. They move the leaves to point to the light, so if the light is moving from a direction other than straight above it, they can have a more drastic bend.

    Hm. The drastic bend started when she was under a grow light that was directly above. Thank you for responding.
