Helpppppp. *First prayer plant* Got her a few weeks ago, she didn’t look great but has just got worse and worse. I’ve been hoping she would perk up and just needed to adjust to new environment and repotting and all that. I’ve been following plants advice but she’s just dying. What do I do at this point?? Try to propagate? Repot? Any emergency care recommendations? Or go ahead and start planning the funeral? I really really wanna save her 🥲 (I was using the bamboo and trellis because she was extremely droopy. And wasn’t using the wick system with that pot, watering from above)

    I’m sorry!! I don’t know if your plant is too far gone. I know prayer plants like distilled water though. Mine is doing well with that and in the bathroom where it gets humidity and filtered light. Good luck. Maybe this plant wasn’t well when you got it..?? I don’t know. I’m not an expert but seems like a pretty fast decline ..??

      I have been watering with rain water and I have a humidifier nearby with distilled water in it. Just following planta’s guidance on care. It has been a very fast decline. It didn’t look very well when I got it, but brand new to them so I wasn’t exactly sure her health status at that point. Definitely droopy, she’s just got worse and worse very fast. I have checked and not seen any pests. Have her by an east kinda north facing window, majority bright indirect light.

    Also I think I read they are pretty hard to prop the regular way because they don’t really have nodes by their leaves their nodes are like below in the soil so they would need to be divided basically.

      I know some of the stems still have some green to them. I think at this point I need to try to salvage anything with a little life left. I’m going to check roots out tomorrow and see what I can do, I need to do something because watching and waiting and praying she perks up hasn’t changed a thing. I honestly didn’t realize how bad it was until I pruned tonight

    I’m so sorry! These babies can be difficult sometimes. That looks like one of those pots that waters from the bottom. Have you been watering from the bottom or top? The soil looks pretty dry, that’s why I’m asking. If you are watering from the bottom, check to make sure the string is actually in the soil

      Watering from the top. I have her in a pot with drainage holes, I just set it into this one to collect the water after for dumping. And it is was due for a water, I pruned a little, snapped the picture, and watered right after. Good eye and thank you! I plan to prune off dead a little more tomorrow and check out her roots, to figure out what my next move will be.

    These can be propagated fairly easily, and I recommend taking a cutting or two while you still can. Just google propagating a maranta to get more information on where to cut. For the remaining plant, I suggest looking at the roots asap, and get rid of any rotting roots. I also think the pot is too big for the plant, so when you do this, if you can size it down, that may help. Other than that, I’d increase the humidity around the plant as much as you can, and cross your fingers and hope it starts to improve with those changes.

      This is what I’m working with. I just took them out, I’m hoping you can take a look at what’s going on with the roots and give me recommendations. Note that I didn’t separate these, they came in separate chunks like this and I planted all together. But they plants have just withered away. So what now 🥲

    I wanted to give a little update. This is about all I was left with but I was patient and then this is this morning! I think she’s gonna be okay

    My calathea had such bad root rot that it shrunk down to literally one leaf. Luckily the rhizome was still alive and it has recovered and now has out grown it’s 6” pot. Your plant looks like it is recovering well. Good job!
