My Calathea white is currently very happy and putting out really big and lots of leaves. It has taken a long time and was once down to only two leaves. I divided it in spring and put it in a new pot with fresh light fluffy soil.

I’m currently using the Planta app suggestion for watering and I use tap water that I treat with a couple drops of water conditioner to remove chlorine. The plant gets a little bit of morning sunlight but mostly light from a grow light. I weakly fertilize maybe once every few watering. Humidity is probably about 50%. It does get spider mites periodically so I use predatory spider mites for a treatment

What’s your grow light situation? How strong (foot candles?) how long?) I’m still trying to determine the optimal lighting for my calathea. TY!

I’m using an overhead light from Soltech. Kinda expensive but it’s a great light. The plant gets about 11 hours. I’ll try to figure how strong the light is. The light is really high up from the plant, so I think the light isn’t too strong. It does get a little bit of direct morning sunlight

I think my Calathea is getting somewhere between 250-300 foot candles, which seems really low, but it seems to be happy

BbI have such calathea envy! Most of my plants in that family are just hating life 😫 Could you share you soil mix please?

I just repotted it in spring with an indoor soil mixture made by Miracle Grow, but I added a little more perlite to it. I got the soil from Home Depot. It was light and fluffy and I think the plant likes it.

This plant is a diva and isn’t always happy that’s for sure. I’ve almost killed it many times and I can’t seem to keep other Calatheas alive even though I give them the same care and growing conditions. I’m sure it will go back to hating me soon. lol

Don’t you hate it when they’re inexplicably happy when similar plants seem to be insanely sad in comparison!? You’re doing a wonderful job with this one, congrats!! Fingers crossed I find one that like me and my environment just as much! 😅😅

Thank you. It really is a unique looking plant and the underside of the leaf is purpleish.
