Need some help , I’m a complete beginner when it comes to plants. Been gifted this beauty, she’s healthy but with dry brown spots and one yellow/brown leaf. Now I wonder is it because it was overwatered and might need to be repotted?
possibly! I would maybe repot with fresh soil. water only when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. they like humidity but not WET soil if that helps at all. it's a tricky balance for these guys!
1 like Thank you! Yes the soil is quite wet. And according to Planta it has been overwatered. I’ll try to fix the overwatering first and see how it goes.

1 like Now It’s next to the window ( there is a see through curtain). Fingers crossed that yellow leaf is just cos it’s adjusting to its new surroundings. If that doesn’t help I will follow your advice and repot it into fresh soil

they’re very sensitive to tap water, I think a lot of people choose to water with distilled but I just keep it rocking with the brown tips
4 likes I just use my fish tank dechlorinator for their water 😉
2 likes I use tap water but I filter it through Brita filter first, not sure if that’s enough
1 like I think it depends on the brita filter you use, if it filters out lime & chlorine that is probably helpful

0 likesPersonally, what I found best for all of my Calathea's is to use a self watering pot with a wick. As much as they like to stay damp all the time, they cam be very easily over watered. Using the wick method, the soil will only absorb what it needs from the wick keeping it damp and not saturated
