I am trying to save this Prayer Plant I received from my mother. I put a plastic bag over it (YouTube tip) and it seems to be helping but any tips would be greatly appreciated. This picture is after misting it.

    Pretty baby. 💚 Use only distilled water and she will be happy. I also have mine under a grow light and she gets sprayed with distilled water daily. She must love what I do cause she is growing like crazy. Good luck!

    prayer plants are incredibly sensitive to excess minerals and chemical additives in their water. if your tap water is chlorinated and you can’t collect rainwater, i would recommend filtering it and treating with an aquarium water conditioner. filtering the tap water will remove most of the minerals and chemicals and the water conditioner will dissolve any remaining chlorines/chloramines. many will recommend distilled water, but i advise against it as it’s very expensive (at $1-2 per gallon, you may end up spending hundreds on just water) and also the most wasteful option. if your plant is in a greenhouse (your upturned plastic bag), there likely isn’t a need to mist. water evaporating from the soil should keep it humid enough in there

      Thank you! I added filtered water from my fridge to a spray bottle for now. I do think we hard harder water but I kind of want to buy a kit to test our tap water and the filtered water.

      filtering is a great first step and definitely better than plain tap water, but most filters leave some chlorine/chloramines in the water which will irritate the plant. that is why i recommend the aquarium water conditioner as it will neutralize any remaining chemicals in the water. testing the tap and filtered water is a great idea. besides the hardness, determining the acidity of your tap water will be helpful. i know mine is slightly alkaline, ph 7.8, so i tend to add a bit of white vinegar to the water — otherwise untreated for most plants since we have a whole house filter, but sensitive plants get the water conditioner first — to reduce its ph since plants in general prefer rainwater’s natural acidity.
