These are my first ever prayer plants. Both I propagated from cuttings before planting. (The damage to one of the never never plant’s leaves was there when I got the cutting) The never never plant needed help standing up when I first planted it but now it’s doing ok. The other one seemed to stand ok when I planted it but now isn’t. They are in the exact same place, but one is constantly folded and the other never is. The red maranta is pushing out a new leaf just fine, but I’m still worried because I’m not sure if this is normal? They have to close sometimes or it’s not good for them, right? I tried putting the red maranta in a dark place for 24 hours to see if it would close and it didn’t, so I put it back. It also doesn’t lift the leaves up at night the way I read they are supposed to. Feedback? Thoughts?

    When I first planted the never never plant a week ago (it fully closed up within 48 hours)

    Are you using distilled water or well water? They are lime sensitive and don’t like tap water. These plants can be quite picky all I can say is don’t give up on them. Mine got down to two leaves and now she is big and full with new leaves weekly. Give it the right water and some liquid fertilizer and let it do its thing. I bet it pulls out of it. I do let my soil dry out before watering

      I’m using tap water which isn’t well water and is more decent than in a lot of places, but I haven’t tested it for lime. Dammit. I think you’re on to something. I’ll try that, thank you!!

      It was 100% what was hurting my girl. I just buy the distilled water in jugs at Walmart. I went from being terrified of the prayer plants to loving them after I rehabbed her! Let me know how it goes!

      I bet this is my problem too! Should I repot them or just wait until they need to be watered again?
