Help! She won’t grow new leaves and idk what the leaves she has are going through. Dr. Planta says overwatering but I’m following the water schedule. I also repotted her in well draining soil so idk what she’s telling me.

PlantLadyThat pot looks massive for the plant. Mine is very full and in a 5” pot.

caitlini was also going to say the pot looks way too big, you should repot into something much smaller, 4 inch probably. when you do, take a look at the roots and see if they are rotting

yes, you can cut off all of the roots that are rotting and treat it with a hydrogen peroxide mixture and keep it in water until new roots form. i would leave it in water until you see secondary roots form and then you can repot it

AdaAs long as the soil is draining enough the pot size should be fine. Shock from repotting would probably make things worse . If you’re still nervous about it, just try watering the center and not the edges. Now, how much sun is this guy getting? And what type of water are you watering with?

Evil Plant DadThat’s not true. Drainage doesn’t account for the moisture that is absorbed being removed. It’s about roots to soil, if you don’t have roots to suck out the water it stays wet too long

Indirect sunlight and tap water. I’m waiting for it rain to use rain water because I heard that is best

Yes, I know it’s a case of the roots not being able to absorb all of the water. But if you have the right soil and the right conditions then the plant should be ok. But it is a tricky balance to find so I understand where you are coming from. Giving a plant a bigger pot just gives it room to grow as much as it wants (though some plants do need/prefer special pots. Like succulents who have really shallow roots and orchids being epiphytes.) Plants were not made to be grown in confined containers but most have adapted to thrive and grow comfortably in pots. I’m not trying to be snarky or rude to you, I’m just trying to explain where I am coming from!

Yes I would definitely use rain water! And snake plants don’t like to dry out too much so I would suggest watering with less water but with greater frequently. I would also definitely recommend doing your own research and assessing the watering schedule that works best for you and your plants environment!

Plant Fatherare you using chlorinated tap water for this plant? i suspect that’s the problem along with the pot being too big for the plant

Yes I’m using tap water. I don’t have any rain water to use right now. What else should I be using?

if you don’t have rainwater, what i recommend is filtered tap water that has been treated with an aquarium water conditioner. filtering tap water removes minerals and most of the chemicals, but most pitcher filters leave a small amount of chlorine in the water, and treating with water conditioner will break down the remaining chlorine/chloramines
