Hi! I got this prayer plant from my dads gf and i currently live in a dorm. i have no space and right next to my bed was the only option. i want to make sure the light is good enough since i know it likes filtered light. currently it’s 9:30am, so is this a good enough spot for the plant or should i find somewhere else? i am a south facing window so typically at the end of the day it gets a bit more sun. any tips would be appreciated 🫶🏻
I also had a prayer plant in a dorm! They are so fun! Take my advice with a grain of salt because this is just MY experience… this looks like it could be ok, but if it’s at all possible, I’d find somewhere where the plant can be in the direct line of light from the window, even if that’s across the room. In my dorm I didn’t have mine that close to a window but it was in the direct line of light… and I was just really diligent about opening my window as soon as I woke up 😂 I also misted my prayer plant literally every other day to keep her humid, and she did really well in my dorm!

1 LikeI also have a Maranta in my dorm haha!! Mine is across the room from the window, seems like the only place it is happy :/ It took me a few weeks to find the best place for my plant, but hopefully I’ve found the spot!

Emily’s advice is good. If you are able to move it out of direct line from that window it would get it away from the heater (I think that’s a heater?). That would be better too. Man that plant is pretty, I’m jealous!
0 Likes yes. unfortunately it is a heater. i’ll try my best to find a spot, however my roomie isn’t a plant fanatic like i am so space is limited
0 LikesI have hanging shelves in my room held up by command strips, I have 2 of them and I love them. They have heavy duty command strips that will hold more weight than the ones I have. I found where the light hits my walls and hung my shelves there!
0 Likes that was one of my options. i think i’m going to use 2 command hooks to hopefully hold it but honestly she’s a little heavy so i’m going to try and find a spot and hope she’s happy. thank you!!

do you use chlorinated tap water for this plant? if so, i’d suggest flushing the soil thoroughly with purer water once the top 1/2” has dried to get rid of the chlorines and excess minerals in the soil. i recommend filtering your tap water and treating it with an aquarium water conditioner to break down any remaining chlorines. the dry, crispy leaves can be caused by dry air as well as chlorine sensitivity, and this might be part of the problem since you mention it’s near a heater
0 Likes most of the dry leaves is from my dads gf, however, i unfortunately used my sink water, but next time i water i will use filtered water
0 Likes filtered water is a step up from straight tap water but most filters, pitcher filters especially, will leave some amount of chlorine in the water, which is why i suggest using an aquarium water conditioner to dissolve the remaining chemicals. unless you have a really good pitcher filter (like the zero water brand filters) with a fresh cartridge, you’ll likely still see the leaves turning crispy on the edges due to chlorine sensitivity
