Brand new plant mom here. I got this one a couple days ago and the person I bought it from told me to put rocks on the bottom of the pot for drainage. Is that okay? Anyone have recommendations for me just by looking at this one?

    I would say it’s already showing signs of disliking tap water, you can see by the little brown spots on the ends of the leaves. I water mine with rainwater but it doesn’t reverse the brown bits unfortunately x

    river rocks or pebbles at the bottom of your pots will actually impede drainage. it’s a bit too complicated for me to explain here but there are plenty of available articles online if you search for perched water tables in potted plants

    My marantas love water, so I’m not sure about the drainage part. Mine are so thirsty that I’ve never worried about it. I can’t really tell from the picture, but it looks like the plant is just in the ceramic pot? If so, Just make sure the plant itself is in a plastic pot with drainage holes for good drainage, and then that pot can be put into your beautiful ceramic pot. Also, just make sure your plant isn’t sitting in water. Dump out any extra water in the ceramic pot after watering.

    I would not recommend it. You might want to get a moisture meter. You can also watch some Calathea care videos on YouTube, they are a bit tricky and get crispy leaves if you’re watering and humidity is off. Planter is had a lot of great content for beginners. Good luck!🍀
