I went on vacation for 3 weeks and had someone water my plants but when I came back home my one of babies looks like this!! All the leaves are curled up! I watered her yesterday but I donât know what else to do to help her. I lost my peace Lilly while on vacation and I donât want to lose her too đ© helpppp
How many times was she watered while you were gone? **At most** she probably needs water weekly in the wintertime but can be less depending on your climate. If she was under watered, then as long as you watered her, just let her be and sheâll bounce back in a few weeks. When sheâs stressed you donât want to be doing too much like moving or repotting her â exception would be repotting if she was over watered. Another thing Iâd check for is sunlight and/or mites. Iâve seen their leaves do that when they arenât getting enough natural light or have spider mites.

Youâve come from a good place but what I want to share with you, in hopes it helps you in the future, is; 1. If it was under watered it would dry and have brown tips, tips are fine in this pic. 2. If it was overwatered it would be drooping 3. If it was spider mites there would be dots of damage or webs but no curling. 4. Not doing too much when something goes wrong is sometimes the right choice, but telling the poster not to move it is the worst advice in this case as this is clearly too much light. If it was overwatered and suffering from root rot, it will definitely die if you donât repot it. Hopefully this helps you in the future! đ

Please donât come after people who are helping, especially when you could (likely) be equally off base with your assumptions since theyâre only based on your ***limited*** plant experience as an admittedly đ new đ plant đ parent. 1. You canât always see that kind of definition in pictures, and I do see brown tips. She said she watered it yesterday so I didnât expect the soil to look dryâ DUH!! 2. Maybe, maybe not yet. You say all of this like itâs a definite scienceâ itâs not. 3. You canât see that kind of definition almost ever in pictures, unless youâre specifically looking to capture it in the photo. Spider mites are the most common pest for calatheas, please donât act like it couldnât possibly be the culprit just because you didnât come up with it. 4. I specifically noted repotting due to overwatering as an exception. Again, really just seems like you want to mansplain more than actually help. ***BONUS** 5. I see the almost-dead plants at Target looking exactly like this, usually from LACK of sun, unless youâre about to tell me theyâre getting burned from too much fluorescent lighting. Plus her blinds are shut in this pic. You have no idea what her sunlight situation is and plants often react in similar ways to different stressors. Hopefully this helps you in the future!! âđŒ
5 gillningar Almost every single plant Iâve ever seen curling its leaves upwards has been telling me the same thing. âOuch, too much sun, Iâll curl my leaves to reduce exposureâ Moving to a shady spot will stop this from happening more, the curled leaves will take considerably longer to uncurl than they did to curl. Calathea are used to being under the canopy of a forest so make sure they have bright light, but nothing with direct sun exposure. Mine sits in a window that gets bright morning light but there a tree in between the window and the sun so it breaks the light enough.

My rattle snake did this when it got too dry. Water it, and let it be- leave it in its spot if thatâs where it had been thriving. It will take a while for those leaves to uncurl (also, their leaves do yellow if too dry- a bright yellow). Try to put a humidifier by it to help the leaves uncurl.

I agree with Babette. Give it a good soak and monitor. It should bounce back in a week or two. Do you have a humidifier in your plant room? Whatâs the average temperature in your place?
2 gillningar Average temp is between 72-75. I just got an evaporative humidifier so hopefully it helps all the plants. Iâm brand new to plants but up until I went on vacation they were doing great. I wasnât using tap water and I checked them for brown spots and anything that would be concerning almost every day. I have a huge calathea and she was fine. I also have another calathea and she was fine so Iâm not sure why this one is being so dramatic đ
