Hi! I just bought this gorgeous plant at the farmers market on Sunday. It was so healthy and happy I knew I needed to incorporate it to my small plant family. Transportation was a little rough but she held up. Five days later, most of her leaves are sagging and I’m not sure why. She’s in partial sun/shade. The lady told me to water once a week 32 oz. Help! Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?
It’s a calathea or prayer plant so are you sure it’s not just “praying “. The leaves have a rhythm. They go up in the morning and down at night. Or is it the other way around? 🤔

Haha other way around! They spread open in the day to get light and close up at night.

0 J'aime Interesting. I had no idea that’s why they were called prayer plants, thank you for that insight! I definitely lost some leaves but after a heavy water sure enough they’ve risen back up

0 J'aimeYou may be overwatering it. Let it dry out a little more and use distilled water.

The amount of water to give it will depend on lighting conditions as well. If the seller had it in brighter light, and you’re giving it the same amount of water in shadier light, you may be overwatering the plant.
1 j'aime Prayer plants are fussy! I had one in an east-facing window because I was told they liked morning sun. Mine HATED it. Moved her a few feet back from the window and she perked right up. I have another calathea that got a little dry and suddenly it drooped right over like it had no more will to live—watered it and it popped right back up. I think it’s a lot about tinkering with location, moisture, and figuring out what seems to help. I’ve also heard some people swear by distilled water—I haven’t gone that far yet but I do let tap water sit out overnight to let the chemicals dissipate.
1 j'aime I’m a broke college student so tap it is lol! I’m in Oxnard with the window (open 24/7) facing the west. I moved my other two plant babies next to it and with some heavy water it’s perked up! Thank you for the insight!!
