So I want to get a little pothos or a Chinese money plant but theyâre both toxic to pets and my cat lives with me in a dorm with 3 roommates. Heâs been pretty good about not eating my plants but Iâm worried these are more leafy and he might bite them. Is it safe to have them and keep them out of reach from him or should I just get something else? Heâs ten and pretty mellow so he really usually doesnât get hyper and chomp on em Iâm just a bit worried since these are toxic.
The best advice is better safe than sorry. However, Iâd be lying if I said I didnât have pets and toxic plants myself. My cat is turning 18 this month, lovely old girl đœ If you really want to get a Pothos and your cat isnât a jumper, Iâd suggest a hanging pot. That way it can be well out of reach. Otherwise, some common pet friendly plants are hoyas and spider plants. I think Chinese money plants are considered safe actually, if weâre both talking about the same kind: Pilea peperomioides

2 gillningar No problem! I have a theory that some pet info sites list more plants as unsafe if they cause the cat to throw up. But if itâs not toxic, I donât mind my cat throwing it up. Hopefully it would help teach the cat the plants are not toys or treats đ Thatâs my philosophy anyways

Do whatâs right for your kitty, but I myself have almost 20 pothos. They were my first plants that I started with over 20 years ago. My cats have never bothered them.

My cat bit one of my pothos and hasnât touched any of them since the first time he bit one. I think that it made his mouth burn a little.

Chinese money plant isnât toxic to cats! Maybe youâre thinking of another plant? I personally would never have a toxic plant in the house with my cat just in case they were to get to it, itâs not worth the risk to me personally since thereâs so many nontoxic options

Hi there, just want to say that âpachiraâ money plant is not toxic, but can make kitties vomit. I have one as it seems easy to care for, but my cat chomps down on any plant in her reach so I keep it where she canât get to it, on a wire shelving unit she wonât climb as it doesnât have solid shelves for her little paws:) You can see it on the left. On the right is my sonâs lucky bamboo he is trying to rescue, which is toxic. I hope this helps!
