I’m a long time cat owner who is just recently really starting to get into plants. So far all of the plants I have brought home I have made sure are cat friendly and the kitties tend to leave them alone. I have been really wanting to get a monstera but know that they are toxic to cats. Based on the research I have done it just causes them to throw up. Are there any cat owners with monstera plants that can share their experience?

    Cat lover here! I have one but I got a very small one so it’s on shelf where they cants get at it, same with my other “toxic” plants

    My cat completely ignored both my large monsteras. But she was really uninterested in all my plants. I keep them both up off the floor on plant stands, and away from any surfaces she could climb on to reach them. Just in case.

    The only plants my 3 cats have ever shown an interest in are “feathery” ones like parlor palm, etc. If a plant has regular leaves they just don’t seem to care at all.

    Same with my parlor palm. Only other plant they decided to try and chomp on was my climbing aloe. Guessing because of how the leaves stick out. But they ignored the monstera next to it. Mostly they just don’t want the plants blocking their view 😼

    Ooh I can share here. I had two kittens and a monstera at the same time... The monsters survived, though it lost a lower leaf and has very obvious bite marks on the stem in one place. They figured out pretty quickly that it wasn't tasty haha. The problem with kittens is that they want to play with everything. The older cats completely ignored it.

      Ooh also the monstera made a new growth point right below the bite marks, which has been pretty cool.

    I recently brought a monstera home and set it on my table while I prepared a spot. Next thing I know I see one of my cats licking her lips and half a leaf missing! It wasn’t long before she gave a weird meow and threw it all up. I told her that’s what she gets. 🤭 Luckily she made a quick recovery and is doing fine. The cat is doing fine, too. 🤣

    I’ve had a monstera for 5 years and it’s huge and my cats have never been interested in it or any of my plants. It’s on a short plant stand in a pot. The plants are not near areas where the cats eat or drink or sleep so maybe they don’t pay attention to them. My dog ignores the plants too
