Help! I love plants (duh) and I love my cat. However, my cat loves to get into my plants and this has resulted in me having to put my plants in less than ideal conditions (screenshot of what’s wrong so yall can see). Does anyone have advice for a particularly dangerous kitten? Specifically he likes to dig in the dirt and bite the leaves Two plants are outside because I don’t have anywhere for them inside (and clod weather is coming soonish) And the other three are on top of my bookshelf. I’m trying to save up for a grow cabinet but I was hoping to find something else in the meantime. (The holes in the thanksgiving cactus are courtesy of Kitty). Then Edmond has been reduced to just those two sad leaves (you can see what he used to look like before on his plant pfp)

    Yup, here’s my standard advice. 1) get some cat grass, put it away from the other plants, and let him have at it. 2) go to the pet store and get some anti-chew spray. These don’t always work but are worth a shot. 3) wait. Kittens are terrible and as they grow up they get a little better behaved and may stop.

    You can find cheap plant shelves and tall shelves in general from fb marketplace or somewhere used online! My kitty is also a plant chomper and I bought a ladder shelf bookshelf so that he can’t reach my plants 😅 but I agree, kitten phase is hard. My older cat doesn’t care about my plants 🪴

      Yeah my roommates cat (2.5-3) doesn’t care about them but mine (he turns 1 soon) is obsessed with them 🥲

    Firstly, your cat is adorable. Secondly, my cat is the same. I keep my plants on wire shelves and the wire shelves don’t accommodate her paws for climbing (see photo). You can also hang them perhaps.

      I also just bought a clip-on grow light from Home Depot to accommodate one of my plants that needs extra light but can’t be anywhere close to kitty. It is a double-light that provides 2000 lumens and was $39. It also has a timer feature. I haven’t used one before but like the clip-on feature so I don’t have to move my plant.

    Cats are not supposed to not like citrus. I use water and some orange essential oil and spary my plant and my cats stopped chewing them. I also put orange peels on top of the soil and they stopped digging. And ornage peels in little bowls on the plant areas and they stayed away. And I have 2 planter boxes of cat grass for my 2 ladies and that has helped. Infact they have stopped chewing completely and I have not had to leave orange peels out or spray anything in awhile.
