I would love to get another pothos or a philodendron but they aren’t pet friendly and this guy puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. I have one pothos that he can’t get to but I also have to make sure when I water it that no leaves accidentally fall off. Anyone else unable to have plants that aren’t pet friendly? Have you ever tried the pet deterrent spray? It’s bitter orange and pet friendly, but they don’t like the flavor.
1 Like The bitter apple spray? Yes, it does help. The problem is that although he can’t access the actual plants, if a leaf falls off he might get it and I can’t know for sure that I have sprayed every leaf on the plant. He’s so good at finding things that I miss on the floor. He’s a good boy otherwise lol!

Many of the plants listed as toxic to pets won’t harm them. Most taste bad +- cause GI upset, so they get the label toxic when the worst they can do is give your short-term pup pukes, diarrhea, or hyper salivation (taste reaction). Some research on the internet should help you determine if pothos or philodendron are actually harmful.

Yep, this is what I found when I went looking too, because I have a cat that is very much like this pup... She just wants to taste things. Lots of plants have calcium oxalate crystals in their tissues that cause irritation and tummy upset, but aside from extreme cases that's all they do. Some others are more seriously poisonous, so I always check before bringing a plant home.

Would you be interested in setting up a greenhouse cabinet? Then the plants are contained and pup can’t access them. ☺️
