Does anyone have any tips on how to keep cats away from toxic plants, without just keeping the plants away from the cats? My cats are huge climbers, there is almost nowhere that I could put them where they would be out of reach, aside from hanging which I would like to avoid. This was my first time buying plants and I didn't even think to check if they were safe until I got home😣
My cats naturally tend to stay away from the toxic ones and don’t try to chew them. I have heard some people spray some lemon juice with the water on their plants to deter the cats. Otherwise I just put the plants on a shelf that the cats cannot climb onto or reach

My cats chew all plants, even artificial ones and no deterrent spray is effective. The only solution I’ve found is shelves, hanging, and glass cabinets.
3 likes My cats are aholes and have found a way onto every shelf and into every cabinet we have. And we rent, so we aren't allowed to drill holes to install floating shelves. Hoping I can find a work around. Thank you!
2 likes That’s unfortunate. My cabinet has a lock so I can make sure my plants are inaccessible to my furry ninjas.
2 likesI rent aswell. I use floating shelf’s that have little metal part that I can use nails in instead of screws.

Tbh I rent as well and I always drill holes into the wall Ope, I always just patch the holes when I’m done!! But if u really don’t want to u can get a lil cage to keep ur cat out like a bird cage maybe? Or get like a greenhouse shelf that has a plastic cover on it

I used to volunteer at an animal shelter, and I learned from a cat behaviorist to play with my cats before their meals, which helps with their “hunt, catch, kill, eat” instincts and helps keep their trouble-making habits down. Once I started doing this, they stopped digging up my house plants (among other positive benefits like ending the occasional aggression with each other and not bringing me toys while loudly meowing at 4am).
