How do I stop my cat from playing eating and or attacking my plants? Google had mixed advice on using lemon water spray. Other products wore cat mace and it sounded mean.

Putting aluminum foil where my plants worked but looked ugly so I started using double sided tape. I tried many types of things like the citrus trick but my cat will literally lick the citrus. What I found most useful besides aluminum foil and double sided tape is putting my plants in places where they cat won’t be able to get to it. I saw this in a video, hang your plants or place them high up. If there is still a pathway that your cats can use to climb it block it. Over stuff shelves so then there’s no way they can get to it. Good luck!

KatI’ve tried all the tricks. The only thing that has worked was growing them their own cat grass! I got seeds off Amazon. They’ve totally left my plants alone now that they have their own!

My cats always end up killing cat grass! Or knocking it over and creating a mess. How do you prevent that???

mothmanstolemyvapeI second this! All plants up high and grow them their own. I got catnip and cat grass seeds on Amazon too in multi packs and they love it. I think it makes them feel included.

Cat grass doesn’t live that long in general, usually a few weeks so it’s probably not your cats killing it. Just the normal life cycle. Otherwise they definitely did dump it in the beginning but they learned how to bite it properly pretty quick. Depends on the cats I guess.

Honestly, my cats are hard to manage when it comes to plants. They start going for them specifically to bother me when they want something. I only keep non-toxic plants in their reach, anything toxic for them is placed way up high/inaccessibly (I got a bunch of wall shelves last year and filled them with plants, ie no space for cats to step). I’ve also put a mesh wire covering over the large pot in my kitchen because the aluminum foil didn’t deter them. Interestingly, they don’t seem to mess with plants that are located in rooms where I tend not to go very often (no bite marks, orchid flowers undisturbed)! Totally a social, communicative thing for them. I hope my anecdotes are helpful!

Lil’ chiliI’d probably say just put your plants in a place your cats can’t reach. If that’s not an option though, you can use cat repellents, give your cat more toys, train them with positive reinforcement, or monitor them to make sure they aren’t hurting your plants. Over all, just make sure it won’t hurt your cat if they do get into it😞

VictoriaI spray my cats with a spray bottle and it works. They leave my plants alone. It also works for other things you don’t want them to do. Scratching the couch, getting on the counter, etc.
