Hi everyone! I’ve recently gotten really into plants over the last year or so and I’m trying to grow my collection! I have two cats (Bella and Finn) and two dogs (Copper and Lucy). I recently got gifted some plants that are toxic to pets and I’m wondering what to do with them. I’d love to keep them and I was thinking of putting them somewhere high up where no pets can reach. Is that enough or do I just need to get rid of them?
I have plants that are called “toxic” and cats. I haven’t had any issues but I do try to keep them in places they can’t get to, so high up or shelves that can’t get on

좋아요 1개Look up the specifics of those species; a lot of "toxic" plants are mild and will only cause stomach upset (in which case a pet may try it once but will learn their lesson.) For any more serious toxins, you should keep the plant in a display case such that they physically CAN'T get at it (ikea cases like rudsta or fabrikör are popular for plants.) Absolutely no lilies (does not include daylilies, which are in a totally different plant family) because those are lethally toxic to cats from even just pollen in the air. For mildly toxic plants, use hanging baskets or wall mounts to put them out of reach. You can also put those inside mesh butterfly cages or spray them with bad tasting pet-safe flavorings

If you can, I’d recommend moving potentially toxic plants to a room with a door you can close to keep them out. Even if they tend to leave most of your plants alone, if they go for your spider plant, chances are they’ll try for another plant in the future. Hope this helps.
