these are some of my plants and haru. haru normally has zero interest in plants, which is why i feel safe having philodendrons. even when he’s at my parents’ house, where my mom literally puts her pots of flowers on the floor where he has easy access to them, he doesn’t even go near them. the thing is that one year ago, my roommate had a small plant in our kitchen which i believe was a parlor palm. haru DESTROYED that thing. he was always trying to jump up to gnaw on it and he would yack up little pieces of the leaves intermittently after sneaking bites without us noticing. note that we had multiple other plants and haru did not care at ALL. He Wanted Palm. what is with the palm?? does anyone know why he wanted that thing so bad? he doesn’t even like catnip that much. thankfully it was a nontoxic plant and my roommate ended up throwing it out anyways, but we still laugh whenever we remember it because it was so random 😭

i had the same problem with my dog! she doesn’t care much for plants. however, she had beef with the flowers on my mom’s orchids. she would rip them off the plant after they bloomed. she didn’t eat the flower or the plant. she just really like plucking those flowers (and only those flowers) for some reason.

it had to be personal! she went out of her way to pluck them. we moved one to the kitchen counter and she still got to it! she’s only a bit bigger than a jack russell so it was amazing to us how she got up on there LMFAO

Definitely sounds personal 😂 My dog growing up would pluck raspberries off the bush. He would do it so delicately because of the thorns (same dog who picked up a porcupine in his mouth twice 😬 but raspberries hit different I guess lol). It makes more sense to me because raspberries are yummy, but those orchids must have looked at your dog wrong 😂

Maybe the palm fronds seemed toy-like to him. Or it has a smell that we can’t detect 🤷 Good kitty for avoiding the philodendrons though

I think it’s definitely a toy to them. My cats don’t care about my plants, but once a palm came into the house, they both wanted to have at it!

the part that confused us was that it was a baby plant so its fronds weren’t long at all and he kept going for it even after they were reduced to stubs HAHAHA and he also doesn’t go after my pothos which trails a lot and resembles some of his toys! it’s a mystery, but he really is such a good boy ☺️☺️
