Bojangles

New to anthuriums and recently picked up this queen, was wondering if it could use a larger pot as i’m not sure how snug the plant likes to be any care tips would be helpful too!

    Anthuriums do not like to be snug like monsteras or philos. If you repot, try not to mess with the roots too much; they’re very easy to break and this isn’t a plant that’ll easily bounce back. I’d suggest changing to a much more airy mix (something meant for epiphytes) and doing a moss topping/collar to keep humidity high around the roots. It will also help reduce watering frequency.

    If you want something that’s pretty and easy to see when you’d need to repot/water, use a taller glass. Something that doesn’t narrow at the top and is really just a cylinder lol. Fill 2 inches with Leca/lavarock/chunky perlite (this is your drainage layer) then soil/plant/soil. Top with sphagnum to maintain humidity. A lot of people talk about anthuriums needing high humidity but it’s mainly for the roots, not necessarily the entire room the plant is in. (you’ll be able to see the condensation and get a good idea of when to water and see how much the roots have filled in the vase).

      Can they stay like that forever? My plant “dealer” told me about this (I think she saw it with alocasia from Sydney the Plant Guy). Two of the anthuriums I purchased from her are leca and then a tree fern fiber mix. A new Queen, which was recently imported, is in leca and moss. Thoughts?

      Moss is easier to overwater imo but it is a sterile media so should work fine as long as you’re mindful. Lots of people keep anthuriums in moss mixed w perlite or pumice. Unless you mean w/ Leca at the bottom? I tried it that way specifically with moss and found it too easy to overwater still. My preferred method is tree fern fiber. Sometimes I mix pumice or perlite in. I used to use moss toppings too before getting a humidifier.

    Jake Inzerra on YT does a better job of explaining it and has several videos on how to keep anthuriums in a drainage “no drainage” set up.
