QUESTION!!! Pest? đ Thrips? Sheâs been quarantined and treated twice with Bonide Super Soap. I donât SEE any more potential bugs on her at this point. Can I use a spray like Paige Tailynâs âSexy Plant Sprayâ on her or is that a poor choice for velvety anthuriums?
Couple questions: - how long have you had it in pon? - Did you see bugs before spraying? Or are we hypothesizing haha - what are your growing conditions? (Himidity, PAR or how close to them if you use grow lights, airflow, fert) - when you sprayed it, did you wipe excess off? Was it put back under lights while wet? It could be related to any one of those. Unless you saw pests, then that would narrow it down pretty quickly lol. Also, I have tried Paigeâs mix and didnât find it to be very helpful aside from aiding in washing away anything. Alcohol is also fairly harsh on these. I mean this in the kindest way: Paige is new to dark velvet anthuriums. ANY other plant and sheâs gospel but Iâd look at other content creators specifically for these. Ie, GreenReaper. Creators that almost specialize in them if that makes sense. Youdontevengrowhere on YT has a few hour long videos where people submit info and pictures of their anthuriums and she helps them figure out what the damage is from. That helped me a lot when I was starting out on them. I use the same insecticidal soap and havenât experienced spray damage on my velvets but I rinse once itâs dry and gently wipe them down after. If you could post a more detailed photo of the damage I could be better help! :)
1 mi piace đ long and helpful! Itâs been a month so Iâll try to remember what I did. Attached picture is her now - with the damaged leaf. I donât think I ended up using a âSexy Plant Juiceâ spray. I have something similar from another manufacturer and they said âwe donât suggest using it on velvety leavesâ. I never put plants back under the grow lights until theyâre dry. Usually I just wait overnight.
I donât remember seeing bugs - but Iâm a âscorched earthâ person because I DID have thrips 2 years ago and Iâm traumatized by the experience. I think I ended up spraying her for 3 weeks. Sheâs in a chunky pon mix - I bought her in pon and sheâs been upsized once. sheâs giving me an inflo currently with another leaf trying to pop out. đ They live with a humidifier but not in a cabinet. Anywhere from 60-80% humidity. Current FC = about 500 for 14 (?) hrs per day. They are fertilized at 1/2 strength every watering - which is ALL my plants because I find it easier đŹ Thanks for the additional suggestions for creators to follow - Iâm gonna check them out
