I think my Phal has root rot? The lower leaves have fallen off and there is a visible blackness creeping up the stem system. I repotted it a couple of months ago. It had been cared for by someone who watered it every Friday and did not drain it but left it inside an outer, almost exact same size as inner âorchidâ pot. In other words constant standing water. When repotting I removed the dead roots. This left 1 lower root about .5 inches in length and one reaching above ground. Poor thing had been struggling and my attempts to help it appear to have done the opposite. Ideas on what to do going forward? Itâs already lost the two biggest leaves at the base. Thank you!

My mom was complaining about having fungal gnats in the kitchen. She has several orchids there so this morning I checked them out. It was pretty bad. At least three of them were sitting in a pool of water and had such bad root rot that I had to throw them away. I tried to save the other four by cleaning off the roots, cutting off any black roots that looked rotten and then repotting. I didnât have any orchid mix and honestly since roots are in pretty bad condition already I didnât feel like going out and getting an orchid mix for potting them. Instead I used a chunky mix I already have. Do orchids need to just be in bark? If so Iâll go get some this week and transfer them to it. Do you think they can be OK in a chunky potting mix?

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone had advice as to why my orchid kaki's root is starting to rot? There are two others and they both appear to be fine. Delilah (my orchid mother) is placed 120cm from my window, because when she was on the windowsill it was too bright for her, yet now Planta is stating this is too far away, could this be to do with it? Thank you in advance.

Orchid experts !!! I got this orchid about a month ago off a clearance shelf- she wasnât looking too happy so I repotted her and cut the old drooping blooms, a new leaf has sprouted through the center ! But - I am still concerned and would love if anyone could take a look at these leaves and tell me anything they know about what it could mean for the plant. The roots are all healthy.

Two blooms are fading at the top, one bloom faded in the bare spot near the bottom, at the same time new blooms are still coming in. Is this normal for orchid bloom cycles?

At the beginning of the week I was cleaning up underneath the giant monstera in my yard and I found a random orchid, half dead and stuck to a painted ceramic pot. I have 100+ houseplants, but have never owned an orchid, nor is the pot familiar, so I can only assume that she's been there since my ex moved in with me in 2019. I assume he set it there thinking it was dead. Well, that orchid has outlasted the relationship, so now I feel duty bound to care for it. I wet her thoroughly, then removed the roots from the pot as carefully as I could. I gave her a root trim, soaked her in aloe vera juice for a while and repotted her in some bark and moss. Hopefully now she'll thrive rather than just surviving (that DEFINITELY feels like a metaphor for the relationship. đđ€Ł)

Something bad is happening to my paph leaves. Ten days ago the leaves were fine and the other day I noticed brown spots and weird leaf deformation- seems like the leaf is sunken in and depressed (circled). Whatâs happening? Watering and light conditions havenât changed and I checked for pests and didnât find anything anything. Just in case I wiped the leaves down with alcohol and a cotton ball yesterday. I mightâve also lightly sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. Last pic is the plant 10 days ago and the leaves are ok. Please help!

Miltassia Shelob 'Okika' I have been waiting ages for this one to bloom. When I first got it, it was in PACKED sphagnum. I didnât repot soon enough, lost all the roots and have been dealing with setback ever since. Itâs been a long road with this one but worth it đŻââïžđŻââïžđŻââïž
