I have had this for years and have done nothing to it except water it occasionally. It flowers twice a year. I just looked at the roots and they’re pretty crazy, but healthy. Should I repot in something bigger? Or is it doing well because the roots are so overgrown and bound?
First and second blooms for the year! Around a 5 month difference. I was surprised by how fast the spike grew!
Hello! I just got my first orchid! Anything I should know?
Hello. Two weeks ago I was given this orchid that had been neglected. It’s now getting proper water and sun. However, I don’t know much about orchids. Any advice on what I could do to help this guy out would be greatly appreciated!
Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful day today. So some my orchid are done flowing. Two of them have new growth in the flowing stem. Are those Kiki or new flowing stem?
My mom was trying to grow a vanilla orchid in a little humid box because we live in a cold desert where the humidity is 15%. Of course, since no airflow, the roots and bottom segment rotted. Any way to salvage? It's quite small, only about 5cm of living growth.
I have less experience with polychilos phalaenopsis than most of my other types of orchids. I’ve heard most growers say never never never cut old spikes unless they start to yellow like the one on the upper right. But I’ve heard others say that the VERY old ones will rarely continue to bloom, particularly after the stem starts putting out roots above them on the axis of the orchid. This tetraspis has NINE spikes. Not complaining, but only 3 or 4 of them have ever given me buds. Just looking to see if you guys have best practices that have kept yours in good condition.
I don’t think my orchid will recover. My daughter was watering my orchid everyday without telling me! I know she was being helpful but now the leaves and roots were rotting. I cut the rotting parts off, leaves and roots, but post again in a couple of weeks to show the progress.
Hi Orchid Friends! I had nothing but set back with my Oncidium Sharry Baby. I have two new growths both with odd spotting like this. Is it a little bacterial infection? In the past when any orchid in my care had issues with water getting into a new growth, it would blacken and sort of melt away very quickly. That’s not what’s happening here though. I don’t have a lot of experience with viruses… could that be what’s going on here? 🤔
New to orchid motherhood but I’m obsessed! I love having such a beautiful, pet safe plant. I just moved almost all of them into clear pots to get a better view of their root systems for watering, and next step is working on getting better fitting outer pots! What are your best orchid tips and honestly biggest fails/lessons learned?
My 2 phalaenopsis today. The plain green one's blooms have started opening, and the variegated one has a total of 4 flower spikes (2 dormant and 2 new ones emerging). I would love to see it bloom from all 4 spikes at once! Will post again when they are fully in bloom :)
Hi folks. What do you to plant? Top one leaf left and are fine. By looks of its had to much sun. Last year maybe. What do you guys think?
FINALLY blooming. Girl was naked for months
Tiny but mighty. Went to an Orchid sale for the first time. Place was huge. It was overwhelming how many they had, so I settled on this little guy.
How am I doing ? I got her in feb and her flowers fell pretty immediate. She popped a new leaf but the cane is slowly getting darker and darker. I did remove quite a few bad roots when I got her too. Do I cut the cane off or leave it. Should I change the pot and moss?
My orchid is done for I think. It’s a moth orchid. It dried out quite a bit and was knocked off the shelf by my toddler. I’ve been trying to rehab the orchid, but it seems to be still having trouble. It has 1 root, that is green and has new growth. It has 1 tiny leaf, but it is not firm, and is a bit wrinkly. I’m not sure what else I can do to help it!
Does anyone know what the variation of this orchid is? I know it’s a Cattleya but I’ve lost the name tag :(
