Does anyone know why my Oncidium got these brown and yellow tip on a couple of leaves? This is my last attempt at growing orchids (lost 4 Phals previously)…and I really want these to flourish. Westward facing window…filtered light…potted in growers soil material mix of small bark and sphagnum moss…no AC directly on these plants…temps maintained around 70…misted on a schedule (every 3 days) Thank you in advance for any advice.

Has anyone ever had this kind of problem with a phal? Healthy plant gave me a brand new leaf but it has split at the base on both sides. It appears the leaf that grew before this one was so narrow at its base when this one grew and tried to open it split. It is only connected at the center’s natural crease vIs there any way to encourage leaves at the crown to loosen or flatten to prevent this in the future?

Sorry I’m an orchid newbie- does this look okay?

So I got a new orchid yesterday to replace the one my boyfriend over watered while I was gone. This one looks a little puny but it was the only one that looked like the same color as my previous. It was special to me that’s why I went ahead and got it. It was severely over watered so I took it out cleaned the roots, repotted w orchid soil, added a small amount of water w orchid food mix. Did I do okay? What else should I do to help heal this new baby?

Out of curiosity is there a reason as to why so many orchid growers use brown/tan sphagnum moss instead of the green? Apologies if this is a stupid question 😅

I rescued a beautiful phal orchid from the clearance rack at Lowe’s but am wondering if there is any real chance for survival. The plant actually has 3 flowering spikes so I was surprised to see it discounted until I got home and inspected its roots through the pot. They were nothing but a yellow slimy mess. The leaves are severely dehydrated but the potting media was wet so clearly the roots are not taking up needed moisture. I committed what most would consider the cardinal sin of repotting while blooming but my fear was it would be far too gone had I waited to try and rescue it after the blooms fell. The photo shows the remaining “heathy” roots. Sadly, I didn’t even have to prune the dead ones away as they disintegrated into mush when the plant was removed from the pot. It does appear to have a couple of new healthy short roots and two long air roots but those are pretty shriveled. My plan is to just keep it misted to encourage more root growth but not allow additional rot but I’m not sure if there is anything else I can do. I’ve never tried this level of “first aid” so suggestions are welcome. I’ve seen conflicting information on if I should or should not fertilize it. So if anyone has some insight I’d love to get your thoughts.

Just spent the last 30mins rescuing this orchid that belongs to my mother in law. It was sitting in pool of water & had to be repotted immediately. I’ve cut away anything dead or mushy and given her new bark soil. What was once a two stem orchid, now in recovery 🤞

Does anyone know why this leaf is yellowing down the middle? It’s not the bottom leaf, the plant gets weak fertiliser once a week and dries out between each watering. It’s on its second bloom cycle this year- the only thing I can think of is it may need new medium?

Hey plant parents, I’m not sure if I’m just overstressing but I’ve had a phal orchid for around three years, the most recents two where it’s been in water culture. Root rot and I had history when it was in bark. However, today, I noticed that the third leaf up was beginning to yellow, but all of the roots are healthy and the leaves aren’t soft or mushy. Is there anything to worry about? It’s growing it’s eighth leaf right now, and the bottom four leaves are at least two to three years old (been there since I got it), but that it’s not the bottommost leaf dying off has me a little stressed

Just a quick “shout out” to Greg for the reminder that my Vanda Picha might need a little extra help to stay moist even if he is misted multiple times a day. Some mopani wood and sphagnum moss should make for a much happy plant and hopefully I’ll get a thank you for the new home with a new spike soon!

Curious if anyone is growing Vandas? I have one that over the last year has spiked and flowered 3 times but now seems to have stalled. His leaves are looking a little leathery but I am not sure if I should take any of the lower ones off or wait until they yellow. This is my first Vanda so I’m just flying blind. (See this Vanda blooming in my profile photo.) Observations and suggestions welcome!

Do y’all do anything to control roots that are growing too close to leaves? The one on the right was growing along the leaf so I used a sling to keep it up off the leaf until I can redirect it down. And now I’ve got 3 more on the left (third is around on the other side- not pictured) will they damage the leaf or cause the leaf to fall off? This orchid has such pretty leaves I don’t want to loose them.

Hello orchid lovers, this is gonna be a jumpscare 😭 these are my 3 orchid plants that have been gifted and I’m not sure how to look after them. The one in the middle is actually surviving after I’ve placed it in pure water. Would like some advice if I’m able to get them back to life or have they died. Also would like to point out I have watered them about a month ago, the right one doesn’t seem to be drinking the water.

My moth orchid always seems to struggle having more than three leaves, the roots are also hard to decent between green or brown or silver.. and one of the leaves is starting to shrivel and wilt. I repotted and cut off a bunch of dead roots but the condition doesn’t seem to be improving, even after two weeks. Any tips or advice? Thanks!

This is my most recent rehabilitation project! This girl was given to me sooo thirsty, choking in Spanish moss, and without any support. I wish I would’ve taken a picture but it was so sad. Legend says she’s over 10 years old (you’d believe it if you saw her roots entirely). I’m just so happy for her! She’s loving life now 🤩🌱

Hi! This is my first ever orchid and I have some confusion…Planta says they do not require frequent watering, yet it’s telling me to water twice per week…so which is it?! 😅 hoping to keep this baby alive and well for as long as possible. Thanks!
