Does anyone know if these greyish/white roots are suppose to be growing out of my orchid and this many?!
I found this on my Angraecum didieri this morning. It’s a lot going on…a new root on the right (it’s knobby thats how I figured that out,) and on the left what looks like a stem growth and an unidentified object with 3 tiny leaves which I can’t tell if it’s part of the stem or not. Does anyone know if my assumptions are correct? I’ve never grown this type of orchid before. 😊
Hi everyone I’m very new to houseplants but an learning all the tine… I have these beautiful orchids which have finished flowering and would like advice about how to repot. Also can they do well in glass vases ? I have bought orchid potting bark, perlite etc but really want to try my best not to kill it-
I purchased this stunning Maudiae purposely with the bud still closed, thinking it would give me more time to enjoy the full life of the bloom- vs buying one open and not knowing how much time is left to enjoy the flower. However, it’s been a few days and it’s not opening. 😬 I’m worried that the change in environment is going to cause it to stale or (yikes) full on bud blast. Can anyone with more experience with paphiopedilums tell me how long these guys generally take to open? Should I be concerned or just be patient? Anything you might suggest to help her along, (other than good old general terrestrial orchid care?)
i received this orchid as a gift towards the end of july and my cats have put it through a lot of trauma since then, its been knocked over twice ive had to repot it both times. i’m not very knowledgeable but all the blooms have fallen and im not sure if the roots are okay. is this plant okay and how can i try to help it rebloom or get better.
Hello! First time orchid owner here. Mine just dropped her last flower and now I should cut off the entire stem right? I have faith it’ll bloom again, it’s putting out a new leaf right now so I think it’s happy. Any help or advice is appreciated!
Cattleya Jairak ‘Cosmos’ that I picked up today (among others in a small haul) at Chicagoland Orchid Fest. This one was from Natt’s Orchids. I fell in love with it on the website- (see pic of flowers-omg) but didn’t realize it would be potted in one of these baskets. Ugh! I just know I’m going to completely set it back when I repot. Any advice other than soaking it really well and just being meticulously gentle? 😬
Fredclarkeara After Dark "Black Pearl" Oooooooooo, one of the plants from a recent buying bender just arrived. Tres excited! It’s my first time diving into the Catasetinae Alliance. We’ll see just how black the flowers are… They sound wild. Short but dramatic growing season where they are thirsty and hungry. Then they drop all the leaves they just grew, flower and then go dormant spending the rest of the year as random green sticks in a pot. Oh and pretty much every resource I looked at warned of spider mites and I still bought it. Evidently I hate myself. But sooooo excited! Wish us luck
My orchid has a yellow leaf 😕 why is this happening?
Does anyone know what is my orchid’s problem? Please help!
My phalaenopsis, Franklin, has had this wee tiny leaf since I got him from Lowe’s. It hasn’t gotten any bigger, just stays like that. I’ve repotted, got the good stuff to pot it in, scoured all of MissOrchidGirl’s videos and can’t find anything on it. Now I did have to cut off a lot of root rot down to where it’s got only a tiny new nub growing. I’m starting to wonder if this pot is just a bad orchid pot since this would be the third one I’ve repotted into it and… (yes I cleaned it thoroughly after each passing)
I’m always requesting follow up updates from other posters, and I realized I’ve neglected to update on some of my questions in the past! I was having trouble with a paphiopedilum that kept growing roots way too high above the media. They would sprout and immediately dry out, regardless of every attempt to keep moisture around them. The new growth was running out of nodes, and I was worried that both the mother fan, and the new fan would just slowly die off. I decided to clip the new fan below one of the nodes where roots had yet to dry out. I put it in a little pot of sphagnum moss that I keep damp all the time. This is the result… Roots sprouted, and have continued to grow longer than any other attempt while still attached to the mother fan. I know it’s going to be a very long time before I can pop this in terrestrial medium, and an even longer time until it’s strong enough to create a new growth and eventually bloom. But I think I saved it. Which was the best I could hope for in this scenario.
Orchid novice here..is all this moss stuff supposed to stay or remove it?!!
PEOPLE KEEP BRINGING ME ORCHIDS!! I’m not asking for these lol. So much responsibility. But anyways, I just got a bunch of dendrobium babies from a client at work!
Meet Ophelia the Orchid! I got her in the beginning of this May with a total of 8 buds. I've pruned the stem in mid June, when the flowers have finished blooming. In August, a new stem grew from the node & have been flourishing throughout September. I'm excited to finally seeing my first ever new blooms! 🌺
I’ve had these orchids for at least 3 years now, and I’ve recently added them to water. I was worried when I saw people saying that the roots are not good if they’re brown or black. Mine have them but I also see what looks like new green sprouts. Any advice/help is appreciated. 2 separate orchids. The one on the left has no flowers the one on the right has 3 blooms with 2 more buds.
The leaves are all still firm and green, growing a new leaf. Blooms just fell off. Is something wrong with these roots. First time orchid owner. Help!
Is my orchid okay?
Oncidium ‘Heaven Scent’ If you’re growing phals and looking to expand into other types of orchids, this is a great option. It’s fairly undemanding. The flowers last about a month and have a mouth watering chocolate scent (that is if you’re into delicious chocolate). And it’s easier to get to rebloom than the Sherry Baby. Wins all around! Mmmmmm, chocolate…
Could anyone tell me what this is? First time I have had an orchid so I’m not sure if this is normal and what I should do? TYIA
