Something bad is happening to my paph leaves. Ten days ago the leaves were fine and the other day I noticed brown spots and weird leaf deformation- seems like the leaf is sunken in and depressed (circled). What’s happening? Watering and light conditions haven’t changed and I checked for pests and didn’t find anything anything. Just in case I wiped the leaves down with alcohol and a cotton ball yesterday. I might’ve also lightly sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. Last pic is the plant 10 days ago and the leaves are ok. Please help!

    Is it just that bottom leaf? I am just seeing this now- and you posted almost a week ago. Has that bottom leaf just fallen off for you? Or has the other leaves started getting affected areas?

      The tissue collapse is on other leaves in addition to the lower leaf, but only the lower leaf developed the brown spots. I spoke to a commercial paphioped. grower and showed pictures of the plant to the grower. They recommended I removed the leaf so it’s now gone. No other leaves have developed any new tissue damage since then. I checked the roots and there was a little rot. I still don’t know what caused the leaf damage but I’m hoping it’s mechanical damage from me spraying H202 or alcohol when I was trying to treat nearby plants for pests. I’m watching the plant carefully ☹️

    I removed the leaf a few days ago. The grower did not definitively diagnose my plant’s problem but did say I need to be careful about spraying the leaves with stuff because it could damage the waxy cuticle

      I would absolutely say the same- there is no reason the leaves should be sprayed. My first thought based on the photos was that the leaves had been left wet. I have seen other people’s orchids react with this sort of cellular damage when they experienced a cold snap.

      Hmm I haven’t considered temperature as a cause. The plants are indoors and not near an open window at night or an AC vent. The night temps inside the house don’t drop down too much. Generally mid 60s at night if I crack the windows.

    The plant as of a few days ago when I took it out of the pot to inspect the root and after repotting.

    Have you checked the substrate? When it degrades it can cause lots of different problems for the plant.

      The substrate is relatively new. I repotted the plant in early March with new orchid mix. It is a good idea to check the substrate though

    Just providing an update on this Paph. It’s still with us and growing a new leaf. There hasn’t been anymore brown spots on the leaves and no new tissue collapsing. Good signs
