Pineapple

Hi! I bought my first orchid middle of April with several buds on it. Now it’s flowering its head off. Yippee! I wondered what the chances were of it flowering again next year. People keep telling me they could never get theirs to flower again - which would be a shame. (She is called Pinkie)

    Because most phalaenopsis orchids are incredibly hybridized, you can’t really know what the behavior of your particular orchid may be. With correct care, there’s really no reason yours wouldn’t bloom yearly, but figuring out what works in your environment sometimes takes a little while.

    Make sure you water and fertilizer her and she gets adequate light. Most people that can’t get them to bloom don’t feed them and only give them water. (Mine are fed weekly during bloom months and every other week the rest of the year. )They also have them in the wrong light. Mine are in east facing windows. She is BEAUTIFUL!!!

    Mix it at half strength. I usually let the plant set in the fertilizer water for about 30 minutes. I grow mine bare root but wouldn’t recommend any growth medium changes until it is done blooming. Just keep an eye on it roots. So many new orchid parents tend to over water. If the roots start getting yellow it is getting too much. I know several people who bought plants only to get home and actually already have root rot. The orchid group here is WONDERFUL for recommendations and help
so never hesitate to ask if you have questions about anything.

    These tend to need temperature variation on a day/night cycle to rebloom. I have one that's rebloomed twice in different spots, and in both cases, it was an area that had less insulation or worse air conditioning so it got warmer in the day and colder at night

    Mine is blooming again this year - it feels so rewarding! Be consistent with watering it during the fall and winter - I actually use ice cubes!

      I have an unheated room so hopefully in winter it will get the overnight coolness they like. 👍
