Hi guys ! I’ve acquired 2 orchids from a neighbor I’m new to orchids I’ve been wanting one for a while but just haven’t purchased one myself . Even I can tell these poor babies are in bad shape . They are super dehydrated so I’ve been soaking the roots during the day & letting them dry overnight to rehydrate but not cause rot . Any tips would be great . I do see there are some good roots left & cut back the bad ones . Fingers crossed . These pics are day 2 of soaking I just poured the water out of the pots for the night .

I would topdress with sphagnum to help up humidity in the media. I would also tent the plants with them on pebble tray to increase the general humidity around the plant.

I would add sphagnum moss to the mix to help hold water in longer. I think these can recover! I have had an orchid recover completely from dehydration

Thank you ! Do you think the soaking is not needed then ?

I would soak when the roots dry out mostly. You don’t want your promote root rot.
