I have this rhynchostylis coelestis that I managed to keep my cat from killing, but I can’t say it’s thriving. I moved it from bark to LECA, because I also overwatered it, and I usually just mist it because all the roots are above the medium anyway. I’m wondering if anyone has advice for trying to get it really healthy. You can see the leaves are a little mottled and some of the roots are healthy, fat and green but some are kind of shriveled and unhappy. Of course it’s never flowered, the poor thing. But on the plus side, it’s alive! Apparently this orchid is a good choice for mounting to bark, which I’d consider except I’ve never done it. What do you all think? What would you do if she was yours?

Hoping someone with more coelestis experience responds to your question. We’ve seen other mounted orchids in this group and the advice seemed really reliable. If you mounted to bark, you may find that you are misting the roots daily, possibly twice a day in really dry environments. If that’s something you can maintain, I’d love to see your final set up. I think they look beautiful mounted- I just couldn’t manage that kind of constant attention.

I agree with Jen - it a question of how much time can you dedicate to it. I haven’t mount any of mine just because Twinkies don’t eat themselves. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with them so can’t offer any real advice. I would research their preferred media and proceed accordingly.

Thank you both! I feel like the roots refuse to go down into the medium anyway so I might as well mount it…I will report back what I end up doing!!
