Today I noticed that one of my orchids is getting a yellow leaf on the bottom of the plant. I’m not sure why, but I transferred it into orchid bark well over a month ago, so I don’t think it is shock, and it’s in the same place as my other orchid, who looks like it’s doing okay. Is it just an old leaf or what?
How do you water them? I have all of mine in orchid pots and do a good 15-20 minute soak once a week. They like to drink up water and be left to dry out. They don't want to sit in water.
0 LikesI use the schedule on planta and water thoroughly for a few minutes and then let it drain out before putting it back on the shelf.

is there a flower spike or root growing above the leaf? new growth on the stem often pierces the leaf below it and kills it.
3 LikesIt’s a root. I cut back the spike back when it died off so it could regrow.
2 Likes the root is probably severing the leaf from the stem. orchids like to do that.

Sometimes a lower leaf yellows and falls off. It could be a sign of poor care, but not necessarily—don’t beat yourself up. If it doesn’t continue up to the next leaf, it’s probably fine.
