Consistent humidity (i use a humidifier!) Consistent temperature and a good light source! I use a grow light from Amazon! It cost $35 and is the best investment i made for my plants! My orchid that I’ve had for 4 years refused to grow and flowers for 2 years until i got a grow light and within 4 months it flowered! I’ve never had flowers stay alive for so long either, we’re going on 2 months!

What kind of orchid do you have? Different orchids can require slightly different care. Did yours just finish its initial flowering?

Based on the plants in your collection, it looks like that you are asking about phalaenopsis. Phalanopsis blooms typically last one to three months, so don’t worry when they start to fade. It’s just part of its natural annual cycle. I would cut the inflorescence back to the base of the plant once the final bloom drops. There is a way to try for a second bloom but in my experience the flowers in the following year tend to be fewer in number and sometimes smaller. Flowering is very taxing process for the plants. For complex hybrid phalaenopsis, light is the most critical aspect for blooming. Put your plant in bright but indirect light. Direct sun will burn a phal pretty quickly. Too low and you won’t get blooms. I have mine in a west window that is shaded by landscaping. They get absolutely no direct sun. If the edges or the backs of the leaves turn reddish you know you are at the max limit of sun for your plant. Oh and remember to gradually move your plants to higher light to give them time to harden off. Some species phalaenopsis and simple hybrids require a temp drop to initiate flowering. Luckily, the most phals found in grocery and box stores are the complex hybrids with that trait bred out. If your plant is a reluctant rebloomer, it might need a period of lower temps to flower. Good luck!

Hi! this is so much great information, the only part i was confused on was the mention of inflorescence, are you referring to a grow light?

The inflorescence is the flower spike (or the “stem” the flowers grow on).
