Hi! I got this orchid 3 years ago. Despite following on suggestions, it does not grow new spikes. It does get new leaves in a regular basis. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Most of the time lack of blooms is due to too little light. While they can grow in low light, the need bright indirect to bloom. Mine are in a shaded west window. They don’t get any direct sun but they get enough. Many have leaves with a touch of red/purple (meaning they are getting the max amount of light they can get safely). Providing fertilizer can also help. Various sources say to use a balanced fertilizer or a bloom booster. Or that you should use different types during different periods of growth. I am having good luck with the MSU formula. If you are not planning on entering contests, I think the most important thing is to fertilize regularly not what type. If you are fertilizing your plant, you might consider switching brands/types or experimenting. And then there is temperature. Many phal species and simple hybrids need a 10 degree drop to initiate blooming. Luckily most of the complex hybrids available at grocery stores and nurseries have breed this requirement out, but not all. Many home growers have good luck with leaving their plants on a windowsill during the fall and winter months. This is toughest one for me to manage. I live in an area that stays warm most of the year. And then some are just bashful bloomers. Unfortunately I have limited growing space and patience. I give healthy plants three years to bloom under my care. If they don’t, they are gifted away. My rationale is the plant might respond better to someone else’s care or growing conditions. Good luck!
