Hi Everyone, I discovered one of my orchids has tons of root rot that I had to cut off. Has maybe one or two tiny ok roots. How do I save it? #needhelp Thanks in advance. Norah

    I am currently taking care of my neighbour mini orchid that has a severe root rot. I cleaned the dead roots, disinfected the plant with hydrogen peroxide, and put it like this to recover. However, it’s a waiting game. I don’t see any new roots are coming out yet. It takes time…

    Hi Norah…I had the same situation with one of my orchids that I rescued from the grocery store. I actually transitioned mine to a hydroponic orchid and it is doing fantastic. I watched some videos and it’s a pretty easy process. You’ve done the hard part by getting the moss and other plant medium away from the roots. You can now start the transition process. You’ll go back and forth between letting the roots dry out and submerging them in water. YouTube has some great videos. Good luck!

      Is this what I’m supposed to do? Is that enough water? Are the rocks ok in there? I’m using distilled water now too.

      Hey Nora…this looks great! The rocks and humidity pad are fantastic. And it looks like your guy/gal is doing really well. I just transitioned my other large orchid over too and it loves.

      Forgot to mention…you can also steep a black tea bag in water and then use the water for the orchid. This solution will help the orchid generate new roots. I’ll take a pic of my guy that was really bad off and show you how good it looks. I alternate week to week with plain water and the tea water.

    If it were mine, I would trim off any dead or dying roots and repot in a ventilated pot. If possible, use a transparent pot. Super helpful when monitoring root development. Size the pot so that it’s a snug fit. You don’t want moisture that the plant cannot access hanging out in the pot. I would use only bark in the pot and topdress with sphagnum. In my setup and water style, that keeps moisture close to the newly developing roots but allows them to dry out quickly as they work into the pot. And Anastasiia said, it will. Take time for the plant to develop a new root system. Luckily, your plant has some roots and phals are tough.
