I rescued an orchid today, its my first ever orchid. I do not really know what to do. The substrate was decomposed and soggy, rotting the roots a bit so I chopped the dead roots off and repotted it into mostly bark with charcoal and sphagnum. I didn’t water the substrate but i soaked the roots. Didn’t actually see any air roots, I assume the dryness of safeway got to it. Had 4 sets of leaves i trimmed the bottom off, they were completely yellow. The next 2 are in the process of yellowing off. What can I do for her??? Is this setup fine??     Just keep on providing her with good care and she should bounce back. I would just leave the yellowing leaves on until they fall off on their own, they are unlikely to stick around for long, but they’ll provide the plant with some water and energy before they fully die

      You also avoid opening the plant to infection by letting them drop on their own. I only cut leaves that have a growing bacterial or fungal issue, not lower ones that are naturally yellowing off.

    You may find that the blooms you have start to drop, or the buds blast. The shock of repotting can do that. It’s very common for orchids to come from stores with old questionable media. Unless there is a huge root issue or pests, you can usually wait to trim away dead roots and repot until your blooms fall. Just didn’t want you to panic if this happens. Going forward, you’ll want to give your orchid bright shade/indirect sun, and water when you see the roots go from green to that pretty silvery color. Don’t keep them damp all the time.
