Roots. Flower spikes wonât be that silver, or have the bumps like that.

Darn it. I got so excited thinking they were spikes. Hopefully itâs at least a good sign Iâm getting new roots? Maybe spikes will come soon.
1 gillaAny new roots are a good sign! Orchids are usually trigger to flower by a drop in temps and daylight. So donât be frustrated if it takes a while to give you a new flower spike.
2 gillningar100%! You NEED new roots and leaves to provide the plant energy to actually grow a new flower spike. In fact- I can see where your old spike is, and a new one will only grow when enough leaves are formed. They usually come out on the side of the stem, at least two leaves down from the crown. So you absolutely need to grow new leaves to even have a spot that the orchid will put out a stem. So try to celebrate those roots, even if you were hoping for more flowers sooner.
1 gillaIf a flower stem started growing but stopped, when the plant was ready do you think the same one would start growing again? I think mine started to grow one but itâs just a bump at this point. (Lost a leaf after it started growing, now have 3 full ones and a tonne more roots so Iâm wondering if itâll start again)
0 gillningarThat is a very good question. I have one that poked out and just stopped as well. Itâs never happened to me before. From what Iâve read, it just depends on the hybrid. Some will just start right up again when it gets its cool down, and itâll resume growing, some will just stale and a new one will grow next year.
1 gillaDefinitely roots. Flower spikes will often have more green than silver.
