How would I go about attaching my orchids to a piece of wood? Also could I put multiple on the same piece of wood, if so, how many? Could they be different kinds of orchids?

My understanding is mounting is relatively straightforward. Pick wood that is relatively resistant to rot because it will be consistently exposed to moisture. Most people put a small amount of sphagnum against the wood, spread out the orchid roots and cover the roots with a thin layer sphagnum. Securely attach the roots to the mount using twine or fishing line. You want the roots to connect to the mount so further growth attaches. You’ll have to water more regularly so be prepared for a high maintenance plant. The number of plants would be dependent on the size of the mount. The trick with multiple plants, especially different varieties or species, is to group plants with similar requirements. The YouTube channel Growing Orchids With Roger has some good information on mounted orchids, I think. It’s been a while since I looked into mounting.

2 J'aimeAlso do you know of any orchids being carnivorous? I posted 6 hours ago but haven’t gotten a response. The post has more info.

I am not aware of any carnivorous orchids but my knowledge is woefully limited to really answer your question. My suspicion is you saw a phap or phrag that had a little water in the “pouch”. If that is the case, what you saw was the reproductive portion of the plant, not a trap. But again, I am not an expert so I will leave the definitive answers to the smart people.

Just mounted my orchid. I have it mounted to cork bark and attached with some brown garden twine. I put sphagnum moss on the roots to help with moisture and encourage new roots to grow. Also to protect the roots from the twine as I wanted it tight to push the roots against the wood so they can attach. This is my first time trying it so hoping it works and if so I will look into mounting my other orchids which are currently in plastic pots with orchid bark.
