hi! where do you guys get your orchids from? all the ones ive had under my care have died to root rot - but then again i have only gotten them from trader joes and those have all pretty much come in bad condition any fav sellers? TIA

    I’ve gotten some from Weis supermarket, which happens to have surprisingly good orchids. It might vary from store to store though, Amazon has been pretty successful too. Only a minor Amazon addict 😝

    Before you waste any more money, be aware that root rot is not a disease that the orchid comes with- it’s a process that can occur when you keep the roots wet all the time. So it wouldn’t matter if you are purchasing at Trader Joe’s or the best orchid nursery in the world… (imo Hausermann’s 😉) it’s the care you provide that is causing the root rot. Buy an orchid anywhere you like, bring it home and we’ll walk you through best practices for care, culture, and repotting.

      Agreed. I would add that most box store and grocery stores don’t have staff that is experienced with the care of orchids and typically the media isn’t friendly outside of the nursery. All that to say the issue may begin outside of your care. In my experience the best way to avoid it is repotting as soon as practical.

    Local nursery or trader joes BUT repot them in a better medium, they seem to use the seed starter medium sometimes which isn’t the best for orchids

    Usually medium grade orchid mix for me anymore. I learned the hard way too. And soak the bark once per week and try not to get water in the crown. Roehampton Orchids in Toronto. Check website.

    South-East of Tampa, there is an orchid nursery that ships orchids or you can go in to buy them. Idk where you are but they have all different kinds of orchids, all very well taken care of,(they treat them like their children) and I would 100/10 recommend. Many great reviews, very reasonably priced. It’s called Palmer Orchids. Website is www dot palmerorchids dot com
