Hi guys! I notices something in the clear pot of my phaelenopsis today, and I'm wondering if anyone could ID it here. Is this a new root shooting out of the old one, or is this something to worry about? I'm specifically surprised by the white umbrella looking thing. Thanks!
That looks like a mushroom to me. Based on the look of the rest of the media, and the fact that you have no holes in your pot to provide air flow, I’d guess you have a bit of a fungus outbreak in there. Give your pot a good sniff. 😆 it should smell, woody, and fresh. Not at all mildewy or mushroomy. It could probably use a repot.
3개 좋아요 OMG. That's incredibly strange! I just recently repotted it into orchid mix (the picture looks really strange this way, it has a lot of bark and is quite airy), and sprayed the roots with peroxide! It has drainage also, I don't know how a mushroom would find it's way there??

Mushrooms. The spores are in the soil and in the air. They pop up when the conditions are right like they pop up in parts of my lawn. The clear pot exposes light to the soil. You could get green algae growing there too. It’s not harmful.
