Can anyone explain why this orchid stem in water is growing buds? And maybe leaves? I was just doing an experiment and this is happening.

The plant will continue to try to do what it would naturally do. But with no leaves and no roots, it has no way to produce energy. So whatever energy it has stored will probably deplete itself pretty quickly. I’d be super interested in updates over the next few days.

I will continue to update everyone to what happens with this orchid stem. If it does flower I’ll take a picture.
