Hi all I’m not really an orchid person however my grandma has two orchids that she’s been caring for for some time now. She’s looking to repot the orchids into water, do yall have any recommendations, tip, and or warnings about doing this? Any advice would be appreciated!
water isn't really a good long-term way to keep orchids. they need a natural soaking and drying cycle, if you keep them in water constantly their roots can't dry out and will eventually rot no matter what you do. a better option is to just keep them in air in glass vases, take them out when the roots get dry and give it a full soak for about 20 mins then put back in the vase. this gives them the natural wet-dry cycle that they need and also still gives you that clear view of the roots she's probably looking for

Do not put orchids in water , I have done this to try and see if it worked but it rotted the plant. I agree with what plantgeek said about keeping them suspended in a vase with air that seems like the best option.
4개 좋아요 Not to disagree with the others, but I currently have two orchid keikis growing in water from my late Delilah (my plant) and they are excellent. I do not know if this is because there were ariel plants, then straight into water, but they are thriving. They have lots of new roots and leaves. Hope this helps.
2개 좋아요 water can be great to get an orchid or keiki with little or no roots to begin rooting, and there's definitely a correct way to do it! however, moving a mature, healthy orchid (likely in a substrate of some kind) into a glass of water and keeping it there indefinitely just isn't a super great idea LOL
