I need some help with this orchid. It has had one leaf for a while; however, some root development has occurred over the last year. I am not sure what to do to help it. Any suggestions? It currently sits in a west facing window.

It might be in too big of a pot. Too big of a pot doesnât allow all the water to be used by the plant so it just sits in water which can cause root rot. When my plants stop growing itâs usually because theyâre not getting enough sun. So I would put it back in the smaller pot it was in originally and place her in a sunnier spot. Hope that helps! đ

If it were my plant, I would follow SaraJoyâs advice about a smaller pot. I would use a 3â pot with ventilation holes, clear if possible. Your plant looks dehydrated (the wrinkled leaves) so I would use a 50/50 mix of bark to sphagnum. And I would soak the pot when watering rather than pouting over the top. Watch for other signs of decline. Yellowing could be due to root loss or setback. Check the roots for health and ensure you are watering properly (ie not getting any in the crown). I think your light is probably at the top threshold of what it can tolerate safely. You might consider backing it off a little while it recovers. The less light it gets the less water it needs, and your plant needs to plump back up. Once itâs healthy again, up the light gradually. Be patient. Your phal is dealing with set back so it will take a couple of years before itâs ready to bloom again. Good luck!
