What’s wrong with my orchid? It only has two blooms and one looks like it’s dying. The other stem without blooms was also severely wilted and looked dead. I only water it according to the recommended schedule on planta.

It looks like it’s just part of the plant’s natural cycle. Phalaenopsis don’t stay in bloom indefinitely. They typically bloom once a year, then focus on leaf and root development, and then go dormant until the cycle starts over again. I would clip the yellowing inflorescence back to the base of the plant. Be careful about following Planta’s schedule without question. It is a fantastic tool but it doesn’t replace human intuition. Make sure the media has dried out before watering again. I try to stick my finger into the drain holes and see if I can feel any moisture. You can also use the chopstick trick. Next time you repot, consider getting a clear orchid pot. They make it very easy to see if the roots have dried out.

thank you, this was very helpful 😊
0件のいいねI had this happen when I first started with orchids. My best advice is to make sure you have a sunny location near a window. I also recommend misting it with water. I follow the Planta guide for watering but lightly mist each day just enough to wet the leaves but not saturate the plant. The flowers do eventually die and fall off and I have some that only bloom once a year.

Thank you 😊
いいね 1件Just make sure not to ever mist when it is flowering! If you didn’t already know!
いいね 1件I only must the leaves of mine, but is there a reason you don’t mist the flowers?
0件のいいねI read that misting the flowers will cause them to wilt and die. Not sure how true but everything I’ve read says that
