Hi! I got this orchid a while ago when she had two stems with flowers. The flowers eventually died and when I tried to save the stems so it would reflower only one made it. My stem is now growing this weird thing that I’ve never seen/ noticed before. Is this the stem growing more? Ive never owned an orchid before so I really hope it’s not something bad!
Looks to me like it’s growing a new flower stem from the old one.
1 j'aime That’s what I was hoping, do you think It will be okay to leave it or will it take too much energy? Is there anything different I need to do to account for it? Sorry for all the questions I’m just always worried about her lol
1 j'aime No worries that what the forums are for!!! I think she’ll be ok, but I’m sure the orchid experts will be able to tell you for certain. I had one that did this and mine produced flowers on it. They weren’t as big as the original flowers but I got 6 or so iirc.

1 j'aime It’s so rewarding when your plants start to rebloom! I have one that hasn’t wanted to bloom in a couple years now.
0 J'aimeIt's just reblooming. It's clearly happy with what you're doing, but if you want to make a minor adjustment it can handle a bit more light. When it finishes this bloom, I'd also suggest you repot; it looks like it's still in its original store pot and they often use weird packing materials, and there are old dead roots (likely died from underwatering at the store) that can be trimmed away to give the live ones space and just tidy up its appearance. Post some pictures when the flowers open!
2 J'aime I’ll try to repot, it is still in the original pot Ive just been really afraid to mess with it too much to be honest. It is actually in one of the brightest windows I have, do you think I should move it to another room. I don’t want it to not do well because of something like light. I can trim the roots but some have parts that are still alive (where just the end died) so I’m just afraid of going too far. I’ll definitely make these adjustments, do you think I should wait until after it blooms or do it now, I don’t want it to drop them. I’ll also definitely post a picture of it opened!
0 J'aimeWait until after it's bloomed. If that's your brightest spot, it's good enough as-is. I'd leave any partially alive roots alone (orchids hate root damage). Just trim fully dead ones and you can get any half-dead ones you left behind on a future repot once they've fully died back.
